Leave your 2021 story behind

This has been a year of heartbreak, great loss, stress, fear, worry, anxiety, exhaustion and deep sadness. But in between, there have also been moments of excitement, joy, fun, love, new experiences, adventures and peace. All of it has been a life transforming journey that has led me to the end of another year where I find myself grateful for all that has occurred for different reasons.

We have to acknowledge the bad, the grief, the sadness, the black holes of despair. For it’s in those times that we truly transform, it’s those moments that make us who we are. It’s surviving when we think we can’t, it’s taking another breath when we don’t want to, it’s waking up and putting one foot in front of another when all we want to do is lay down and disappear from this world. It’s those small battles which, when overcome, bring out a strength in us we never knew was there and we uncover a part of ourselves we never knew existed.

Growth. It’s one of our deepest needs as a human being. To keep learning, to keep evolving mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually, to keep uncovering things about ourselves, others, the world, the universe and to understand our place in all of it. This time of the year is always a good time to revisit the story you've been holding onto for the last 12 months. Take some time for for self-contemplation so that you can keep what works and leave the rest behind. Here’s a letting go exercise for you to journal about so you can release 2021 and clear the space for a new year to arrive in your life:

  • What didn't work for you this year?

  • What did work for you?

  • What have you learnt?

  • What do you want to let go of that is no longer serving you?

  • What do you want to manifest in your life next year?

  • Who loves you and gives you the most support in your life?

  • Who do you love and support?

  • What are you grateful for?

  • What difference have you made in the world this year?

  • Are you proud of who you are and what you've done this year? If not, what can you start doing differently?

  • Are there any incompletions you need to address?

  • Are there any communications you need to deliver?

  • Are you in integrity with yourself and others?

  • What area of your life would you like to transform next year?

  • What resentments, emotions, beliefs and judgements can you let go of, so you're not carrying them into the new year?

  • Have you shown up as the best version of yourself this year? If not, what stopped you and what can you start doing differently to become that person in 2022?

  • If you didn’t have any fear or considerations at all, what would you love to do in 2022?

So many things to think about, get clear on, let go of and get into action with. It's time to leave your 2021 story behind and be willing to create something new for yourself in 2022.

Thank you for sharing this year with me and for all the support you have given me with my work, my book and my podcast. I have loved having you in my Realbie tribe and sharing my life, my mad thoughts, opinions and ramblings with you all. There’s a lot more to come next year and I can't wait to carry on walking a journey of 'getting real' with all of you.

My wish for your year end is this:

May you let go of anything you have been carrying for a long time that no longer needs to be carried. May you breathe... deeply. May you leave your story behind and open the space to create a new story of your life in which you are the all magnificent, powerful being that you wish to be. May you be aware of how loved you are and may you experience your own loving heart to be wide open and full of compassion and love for yourself and those around you. May you have much joy and fun and laughter during the holidays. May you be aware and grateful every day for all that you are and all that you have.

Rest your body, your mind and your soul. Forgive yourself, forgive others. Let go of your points of view and judgements about others and recognise that everyone is really doing the best they can. Do nothing, rest, move slowly, be calm and gentle with yourself and others. Eat delicious food that nourish your body. Play with family and friends. Switch off the computers and be with real, live people and have face-to-face conversations.

Speak your truth - always.

Get real.

Get present.

Get ready.
